New Hair

April26

I finally got a hair cut. This may not seem like a big deal, but ever since I was pregnant with Keane (who is now 2 years old!) I decided I wanted a really GOOD haircut. I never did find anyone that would do anything interesting with my hair in Indiana, in fact they all seemed to give me a blank look when I said I wanted something spunky and interesting. So I waited. And waited. Nearly three years without a haircut because I refused to go unless I knew I would get someone who would really do something great with my hair. I finally found out there is an Aveda salon here in Lansing, and my twin likes to go to one in California and highly recommended it, and the online reviews were great, so I decided to give it a try. It was a wonderful experience. I took a friend along with me to help me decide on a style I would be happy with (she is phenomenal at noticing color, texture, shape, etc). The wash and cut includes a head, neck, and shoulder massage with peppermint, camphor, and some other oil– I walked in there with a terrible headache and it was totally gone after that! Totally worth going there just for that. Here are my before and after photos:

I didn’t pay for a style, but once I procure a round brush, I should be able to flip it out or smooth it under. I just like that it’s versatile and that my very straight, flat, limp hair that can’t hold a curl for anything can actually get some body and life to it.

I like it! I’m glad it was a good experience. It would have been awful to have waited so long and then not been satisfied.

Fun! I’m glad you were able to go and have such a good time. I think it’s cute the way it is, but I can’t wait to see other pictures of it styled differently, too!

I love it! I am so with you. I have a hard time finding a salon I like here. The Aveda Salon in Lansing was where I used to go to. Nothing beats the head massage before they actually cut. And I love the three tiers: institute, exchange and salon. The exchange is really good and is cheaper than the salon. Ooh and I love the No tipping rule.

    Thanks for the compliments!

Hope, I didn’t actually go to the school, I went to Lockworks, which is the professional-grade-only Salon. I just didn’t feel comfortable having people “practice” on my hair, since I’ve had mixed reviews of that place. Although there is no “no-tipping rule” where I went. I just figure, if I’m going to shell out $30+ anyway, I might as well go to a “real” salon. Really excellent service is well worth it to me. It’s good to know that the exchange is decent too.

I really like your cut too! It’s a little hard to see, just because it looks like there’s a little shadow behind your head so it looks, um, a little more full on top than either of our hair ever looks. So you think I should go and copy you?

I’d love it! And yes, it was late at night and we couldn’t get a great picture in the house and I forgot to take one at the salon, so it does look a little fuller on top thanks to shadows– though right after she blew it dry it did look pretty full! Anyway, I love the cut. I’d love to be twinners!
