Talking Baby

February19

Snow Day      OK, so Conan’s going to hate that I referred to him as a baby here, but I can’t help it. He still looks so babyish to me. And I think some of it has to do with the fact that I’m starting to get really comfortable with just having my 3 boys at home. No idea if or when we’ll expand the family if at all. I really wish I had an updated picture of our littlest, but our camera is hit or miss, and mostly a miss these days. SO, pretty much this is the newest stuff we’ve got. Though I was just noticing it’s just a month ago… he just looks so different to me now. At any rate, here’s our little bean. He was saying a few things at 1 year, like "yeah" and "woohoo!" but his vocabulary is ever-increasing. He now says little phrases as words, like "Ididit!" when he’s so proud of himself, and has added important little nuggets like, "tootie" (Cookie, for those non-experts out there). He definitely says Mom (more like Momomomom) and Dad (pretty much just sounds like Dad or sometimes Daddy). OK, so honestly, it’s not a ton, but it’s more and more frequent that he will say "yeah,"  or "no" when asked a question, and more frequently is verbalizing all kinds of nonsense which will soon take shape as new vocabulary. Being a Mom is pretty exciting, you know?

Happy What?

So, I can either come to one of two conclusions this Valentine’s Day.

1. I am a total and complete idiot.

2. We were not meant to go to California this week.

I, personally, favor option one, though as for the truth, only God knows. I have been planning this trip for weeks. It was a huge sacrifice of time, money, and sanity to make the committment to fly by myself with three boys aged 5 and under for 5+ hours. Plus airport time. It was the single most well prepared for a trip I’ve ever been. Yet I somehow mis-remembered the time of departure. I even planned to be at the airport 2 whole hours early (there was a mix-up and they seated me and my two other ticketed boys all in separate rows so I was hoping to fix that) yet we still missed the flight. By about two hours. I checked and re-checked that departure time so SO many times. Yet I remembered I was supposed to be at the airport by 10am. Too bad the flight left at 7:40am.

So this is Michigan.

February8

17 degrees. Below zero. The warmest it’s been has been 19 degrees since we’ve been here. The windchill makes it seem closer to 7. SO, all my boys now have winter snow type boots, Keane included, and I am learning that the whole gag with "I can’t put my arms down!" isn’t so far from true life in some parts of the country! It really is a beautiful winter wonderland. Dangerous as it may be, ice storms are just breathtaking. And I love that I get to enjoy that white winterscape so much longer here than in Southern Indiana where it was melted off by the next day.
